Why Outdoor Kitchens Are Different in Colorado

Kitchens Built for Four Colorado Seasons

An outdoor kitchen that thrives in Phoenix or Dallas can fall apart fast at a mile high. Freeze-thaw attacks counters and masonry, UV cooks cheap finishes, water lines freeze, and winter shows up whether you're done grilling or not. We design every kitchen around those realities from day one.

❄️

Freeze-Thaw-Proof Counters & Masonry

Water that soaks into the wrong countertop or stone veneer freezes, expands, and cracks it apart. We select and seal counter and masonry materials specifically for Colorado's 100+ annual freeze-thaw cycles.

🔥

Gas & Utilities Done Right

Buried gas lines, outdoor-rated electrical, and water rough-ins are run by licensed trades, permitted, and inspected. That's not red tape — it's the difference between an appliance and a hazard.

☀️

Appliances & Finishes That Last

Outdoor-rated stainless appliances, UV-stable finishes, and hardware that shrugs off intense high-altitude sun — not indoor equipment wheeled outside to die in a season.

🌨️

Genuinely Four-Season Design

Covers and pergolas, wind protection, heating, and a winterization plan for water lines — so the kitchen works in October and survives January, instead of closing for half the year.

Covered structures like this are what turn a Colorado outdoor kitchen into a four-season room — shade in July, shelter when the snow flies.

About This Service

Outdoor Kitchen Design & Build for Colorado Backyards

We design and build complete custom outdoor kitchens — not drop-in kits. A project starts with layout: prep, cooking, and gathering zones arranged around a proper work triangle, sized to how you actually cook and host. From there we build in gas, charcoal, or pellet grills, smokers, pizza ovens, and side burners, set into masonry or framed islands with stone, granite, or concrete counters and weatherproof cabinetry. Gas, electrical, and water rough-ins are handled by licensed trades under permit, with an outdoor-rated fridge, sink, and bar seating rounding out full-service builds.

Honest trade-offs, because they matter at this price point: prefab island kits are cheaper and faster, but many aren't rated for our winters and they rarely fit a space well — we'll tell you if one actually makes sense for your project. Stone and concrete counters handle temperature swings well when properly sealed; tile tends to crack at the grout lines in freeze-thaw country. And appliances are one place not to economize: outdoor-rated stainless costs more because it survives — a converted indoor appliance is rust by spring. Appliance covers and water-line winterization are part of every design, not an afterthought.

Most kitchens don't stand alone — they anchor a bigger outdoor room. We fold in stone and paver surfaces, a pergola or pavilion overhead, patio and porch spaces, and task and ambiance lighting — the kind of seamless indoor-outdoor living Colorado homes are made for. From Cherry Hills Village to Castle Rock, the kitchen is almost always the piece the family ends up gathered around.

Who's it for? Anyone who hosts, cooks, or simply refuses to spend another summer carrying platters through the sliding door — this is the project that changes how the whole backyard gets used. Fire features fold into the same service — fire pits, gas fire tables, and fireplace surrounds, covered in detail below, sharing the same buried gas lines, masonry, and permits as the kitchen itself. Think Outside the Deck

We Build Things Nobody Else Will

Standard decks are great. But some backyards — and some families — demand something a lot more interesting. This is honestly some of our favorite work.

We've been building custom outdoor features that go way beyond planks and railings for years. If you've got a vision for something unique, chances are we've either built something like it before or we can engineer it from the ground up. Climbing walls integrated into the deck structure, slides off the second level, fireman poles for the kids (and honestly, the adults), living walls packed with plants, climbing ropes — whatever makes your backyard feel like something you actually want to spend time in.

🧗

Climbing Walls

Hand-holds and panels integrated right into the deck structure — engineered for real loads, not decoration.

🛝

Deck Slides

Slides off a second-level deck or landing, anchored and graded so the run-out lands exactly where it should.

🚒

Fireman Poles

A fast way down from an elevated deck — properly footed, smooth-finished, and fun for every age.

🪢

Climbing Ropes

Knotted ropes and cargo-style netting rigged to framing that's sized for the pull, not just the look.

🌿

Living Walls

Vertical planted panels built into railings or privacy walls, with the drainage and structure to actually last.

Anything You Dream Up

Bring us the idea nobody else will touch. If it can be engineered and permitted safely, we'll figure out how to build it.

How It Works

We don't subcontract to strangers. Brandon and the crew show up, do the work, and you only pay for labor when the job is 100% done. That's been our policy since day one.

🏗️

Permits, Trades & Build

We pull the permits, coordinate licensed gas, electrical, and plumbing trades, and build the masonry, counters, and cabinetry — one crew managing all of it.

Fire It Up, Then Pay

What Can Go Wrong

What Cheap Outdoor Kitchen Builds Get Wrong

  • !
Gas lines run without permits or licensed trades — a genuine safety hazard, and a problem at resale
  • !
Indoor appliances and cabinets used outside — rusted, warped, and failing within a season
  • !
Countertops that aren't rated for freeze-thaw — cracked apart by the first hard winter
  • !
No winterization plan for water lines — burst pipes inside a stone island are a miserable repair
  • !
Prefab kits set on patios that were never built for the weight — settling, tilting, and cracking masonry

FAQ

Questions About Outdoor Kitchens & Fire

Straight answers about what to expect when working with us — no marketing fluff.

How much does an outdoor kitchen cost in Colorado?
Grill islands with counter and storage typically run $15,000–$35,000, full outdoor kitchens $35,000–$80,000, and complete kitchen-fire-patio build-outs $60,000–$150,000. Fire features on their own run $5,000–$25,000. Written estimate after your free walkthrough, always.
Can I really use an outdoor kitchen year-round in Colorado?
With the right design, yes. A cover or pavilion overhead, wind protection, a fire feature or heaters, and outdoor-rated appliances keep the space usable from March through the holidays — and grills work all winter. Water lines get a winterization plan so nothing freezes.
Do you handle the gas, electrical, and water lines?
Yes. Gas, electrical, and plumbing rough-ins are run by licensed trades, permitted, and inspected — buried gas lines to grills and fire features, GFCI-protected circuits, and freeze-protected water supply. We coordinate all of it, so you're not managing three subcontractors yourself.
What countertop and cabinetry materials hold up best here?
Properly sealed natural stone, granite, and concrete counters handle Colorado freeze-thaw well; tile tends to crack at the grout lines. Powder-coated aluminum and teak are the proven cabinetry performers, and appliances should be outdoor-rated stainless only — indoor equipment rusts out in a season.
Can you build an outdoor kitchen on my existing deck or patio?
Often, yes — but it has to be verified first. Kitchen islands are heavy, and gas and water routing depends on what's underneath. We assess the structure at the walkthrough; sometimes reinforcement is needed, and sometimes the smarter move is an adjacent stone or paver pad.
Are wood-burning fire pits allowed in Colorado?
It varies — some Front Range cities and many wildfire-aware foothills communities restrict open wood burning, and temporary fire bans apply in dry months. Gas features stay usable in most of those situations. We confirm what your city, county, and HOA allow before we design a thing.
How long does an outdoor kitchen project take?
Design and permitting typically take a few weeks depending on jurisdiction and HOA. Once we break ground, a grill island runs 1–2 weeks of build time, full kitchens 3–6 weeks, and kitchen-plus-patio build-outs 6–10 weeks, with utility inspections along the way.
