Lighting That Survives Colorado Winters
Outdoor lighting fails in Colorado for predictable reasons: cheap fixtures that crack in freeze-thaw, connections that corrode under snow, and lenses that cloud over from high-altitude UV. A lighting system here has to be specified like an outdoor structure — because that's exactly what it is.
Winter-Proof Fixtures & Connections
Fixtures get buried in snow, soaked in melt, and frozen solid — over 100 freeze-thaw cycles a year. We use sealed, weather-rated fixtures and waterproof connections so the system still works in February, not just July.
High-Altitude UV Resistance
UV rises roughly 10% for every 1,000 feet of elevation, and it clouds cheap lenses and embrittles bargain fixtures fast. We spec UV-stable housings and lenses made to hold up in the Colorado sun.
Dark-Sky-Friendly Design
Many foothills and mountain communities care deeply about light pollution. We design with shielded, downcast, warm-temperature fixtures that light your deck and paths — not your neighbor's windows or the night sky.
Safe Low-Voltage Systems
Most of what we install runs on safe 12-volt low-voltage wiring with properly sized transformers and GFCI-protected supply circuits — buried, sealed, and routed cleanly instead of stapled along a rim joist.
Full composite deck with two covered entryways on a hillside log home. Engineered for 80+ mph gusts, 4 ft snow loads, and 30 years of mountain UV.
Professional Outdoor & Deck Lighting Installation Across Colorado
Good outdoor lighting is designed, not just installed. We start by asking how you actually use your space after dark — dinners on the deck, kids on the stairs, a path to the hot tub — then build a layered low-voltage LED plan: safety lighting on stairs and transitions, ambient light over seating and dining areas, and accent light on trees, stonework, and architecture. Every system includes a properly sized transformer, timer or smart control, and a dusk walkthrough where we aim and dim each fixture with you.
A word on options, honestly. Solar fixtures are cheap up front but struggle through Colorado winters and shaded lots, and most die within a couple of seasons. Line-voltage (120V) lighting has its place, but it requires conduit, boxes, and an electrician for a reason. For most decks, patios, and landscapes, low-voltage LED is the sweet spot: quality LED lamps are rated up to roughly 50,000 hours, use about 75% less energy than the old halogens, and are safe to route under decking and through planting beds. Fixture bodies matter just as much — brass and copper fixtures cost more than bargain aluminum or plastic, but they're usually still working a decade later.
Lighting is also the finishing layer on almost everything else we build. We integrate lighting into pergolas and gazebos, outdoor kitchens, and stair and railing systems — and if you're planning a new custom deck, the smartest time to wire it is during the build. We've strung gazebo ceilings with bistro lights in Parker and designed shielded, dark-sky-friendly systems for foothills homes around Evergreen, where the night sky is half the reason people live there.
Who is it for? Anyone whose deck effectively closes at sunset. If your stairs are a hazard after dark, if your railing lines disappear at night, or if you want the backyard to feel like a second living room at 9 pm in July, lighting is the highest-impact-per-dollar upgrade we install. Browse the project gallery to see how finished systems look after dark.

Deck Doctor is a wonderful company that I will use again! Brandon is a general contractor with experience in many types of outdoor construction. His crew were ideal — respectful, hard-working, very knowledgeable, cleaned up behind themselves. The project was well priced and done in a timely manner.
Had the pergola built last December, could not be happier. Took me quite a while to write a review but 10 stars all around. The team they have is amazing! Would definitely recommend!
Brandon and his team are amazing! They do what they say, when they say, and the quality of work is top-notch. My deck needed a complete overhaul due to rotting wood. His crew showed up early and cleaned up thoroughly every single day. Highly recommend!
One of the best experiences I have had with a contractor. Brandon walked me through the options and was honest and straightforward. Everything he said would happen, happened and on time. The final product is perfect!

What a Bad Lighting Install Looks Like
- !Fixtures dead after one winter — unsealed connections and bargain fixtures don't survive freeze-thaw
- !Exposed splices or cable lying on the surface — corrodes fast and fails faster
- !Glare instead of light — unshielded fixtures aimed at eyes, windows, and the night sky
- !Flickering or dim zones — an overloaded or undersized transformer working past its limit
- !120-volt line run without conduit or GFCI protection — a genuine shock and fire hazard
